How to Host a Minecraft Server with Custom Mods on SquidServers

A clean flow to add your own mod list without breaking your world.

Want a server with your own hand-picked mod list? In this guide you will learn a clean SquidServers flow that avoids crashes and keeps your world stable.

Line up versions

Choose Modded with Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge. Match the Minecraft version and Java to your mods. If the mod author lists a Java version, use that. If not, try Java 21.

Build and test

Create or import a world. Allocate extra RAM with the slider. Place your mods into the server’s mods folder and include any required libraries. Launch and test with one or two friends. Add new mods one at a time so you can spot problems quickly.

Fix common errors

If you see “unsupported class file version,” switch Java. If a dependency is missing, add the required library mod. Remove the last mod you added if the server started crashing after that change.
