A custom modpack can make a great season. In this guide you will learn how to install the pack, set memory, and avoid painful mid-season breaks.

Prepare a clean start

Choose the exact modpack version and note the required loader, Minecraft version and Java version. Copy your existing world if you plan to keep it, or start with a new one for fewer issues.

Install and size RAM

Upload the pack’s server files and start the server. For memory, try 2 to 3 GB for 1 to 5 players on light packs, 4 GB for 6 to 10, and add 2 to 4 GB for heavier packs. If it still stutters after extra RAM, close other heavy apps and lower simulation distance to reduce CPU load.

Keep updates under control

Test any update on a copy of your world before changing the live server. Announce updates ahead of time and keep a simple change log so everyone knows what changed.
