How to Choose the Right Amount of RAM for SquidServers
A short RAM table and signs it is time to increase memory.
Picking RAM can be simple. In this article you will learn a short table that works for most groups and the signs that it is time to increase memory.
Start with these numbers
- 1 to 5 vanilla players: 2 to 3 GB
- 6 to 10 vanilla players: 4 GB
- 11 to 20 vanilla players: 6 GB
- Modpacks: add 2 to 4 GB
Different versions and packs need different amounts. Test with friends, then adjust.
When to add more
If you see frequent stutters, long chunk loads, or crash logs that mention memory, add RAM. If the server still slows down after you add RAM, the limit might be CPU, so close heavy apps and reduce simulation distance.
